Fast‑paced books for reluctant teen readers that build confidence and spark a love of reading.

I believe every teen deserves to discover that reading is exciting, achievable, and empowering. Too often, reluctant and struggling readers face books with too many pages, dense chapters, and overwhelming vocabulary, making it hard to find books for reluctant teen readers that truly engage them.

My mission is to change that. I write short chapter books that are fast‑paced, accessible, and relevant. With clear language, short chapters, and approximately 12,000 words, my books build confidence while addressing meaningful issues. Each story is designed to help readers experience success and discover that reading can be genuinely fun.

Alongside each story, I offer reading guides and comprehension workbooks that help strengthen skills, experience success, and build confidence in reading.

Books for Reluctant Teen Readers - Author of Hi-Lo Books
A Hi‑Lo fantasy adventure series for reluctant teen readers.

The Amiverse Chronicles

The Amiverse Chronicles is a fantasy adventure where teens discover a portal to a parallel universe under threat from climate change. Written in an accessible Hi-Lo style, the series uses short chapters and vocabulary at a grade 3.5 to 4 reading level to build confidence. With high-stakes action and themes that appeal to older readers, it’s designed for readers who prefer fast-paced, accessible stories and for anyone searching for books for reluctant teen readers.

There are three books in the series: Scorched, Flooded and Poisoned.  They will each be released one month apart starting in November, 2025.

Scorched

Book 1 of the Amiverse Chronicles

Wildfires rage, rivers vanish, and Cedarville is choking under smoke. When four teens stumble through a portal into the Amiverse, a parallel world bound to their own, they discover both realms are suffering from the same climate disasters.

Guided by Orin, the Steward, they set out with magical tools to restore the life‑giving flow of Mote. To succeed, they must outwit illusions, survive Ember Wolves, and uncover the Spirit Tree’s hidden wisdom before everything burns to ash.

Why Hi-Lo Books are Important for Reluctant Readers

High-interest, low-reading-level books open the door to reading for students who struggle with traditional texts. They combine age-appropriate themes with accessible language, allowing readers to engage with stories that feel current and exciting. This approach helps bridge the gap between ability and interest and introduces short, high‑interest books for reluctant teen readers.

By providing books that reflects their maturity while supporting their reading skills, Hi-Lo books build confidence and stamina. They promote independent reading, nurture a genuine love of stories, and create opportunities for students to experience success.

That is why I write stories that inspire a love of reading and build confidence through exciting, easy to read adventures.
